Disabling Septaz

There could be circumstances where you would want to disable Septaz such as a planned infrastructure upgrade or a migration to different region. In such scenarios follow instructions below to disable Septaz and roll back all changes.

Introduction to Septaz

Septaz factors your existing reserved instances and monitors all the on demand instances for opportunities where running costs can be reduced If there are opportunities to reduce cost, Septaz will replace your on-demand instances with spot instances . Likewise, Septaz also monitors all spot instances at 5 seconds interval for possible interruptions. If an interruption to spot instance is likely, then Septaz will take one of the following action

1Replace spot instance with a new spot instance in different availability zone If spot instances are not attached to EBS data volumes & if Auto Scaling Groups & Load Balancers have been configured for multiple AZs then, Septaz will look for launching an instance of the same type in a different availability zone by factoring stability & cost.

2Replace spot instance with a larger instance of same type If possible, Septaz will replace an instance with another spot instance by opting for an instance type larger than the existing one. For example, if the there is no spot capacity available for c5.large and spot price of c5.xlarge is less than on demand price of c5.large, Septaz will launch a new instance with type c5.xlarge

3Replace spot instance with on demand instance If moving instance to different availability zone is not possible and user has disallowed changing instance type, then as last resort, Septaz will replace spot instance with an on demand instance.

Same process is followed while replacing on demand instances with spot Process of replacing an on demand instance with a spot instance and vice versa is seamless and behaves like simple reboot with very little downtime at an individual instance level. Septaz detaches and attaches all resources like Elastic IP, EBS

By distributing instances on multiple availability zones or having read/write replicas in multiple availability zones, users can easily achieve 100% uptime while running completely on spot instances.
